It depends on 2 different factors -
1. The temperature of the liquid and
2. Whether the liquid is applied in direction to the blanket or spilled in-directly
Warm liquids will absorb quickly into the first layer, however will be stopped by the inner waterproof membrane. Cold liquids will absorb through the first layer as well, but at a slower pace giving you a chance to wipe away the liquid.
If the liquid (cold or warm) is intentionally applied in direction (90deg) towards to the blanket it will absorb into the first layer and stop at the internal waterproof membrane.
If the liquid (cold or warm) is spilled (applied indirectly, on an angle as general spills occur) the liquid droplets will initially bead on the surface giving you a chance to wipe away the liquid easily before it gradually absorbs into the first layer and stops at the internal waterproof membrane.
The blanket is constructed with an inner 100% waterproof membrane to stop liquid penetration. The surrounding outer layers (polyester mink) will eventually absorb the liquid, however it stops at the waterproof membrane. This blanket has been tested up to 5 hours with no penetration through the waterproof membrane.
